The Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs recently announced a new batch of nationally approved crop varieties, with seven major crop varieties from Guiyang City and Gui'an New Area in Southwest China's Guizhou province passing the evaluation. These include six rice varieties and one corn variety.

All six rice varieties were independently developed by Guizhou Zhunong Gaoke Seed Industry Co and its subsidiary, Anhui Shenggu Agricultural Technology Co. They are characterized by short stalks, large grains, and high-temperature resistance.

The approved corn variety was independently bred by Guizhou Daoyufeng Agricultural Technology Co. It demonstrated an average dry biomass yield of 1,403 kilograms per mu (0.07 hectare) in two-year regional trials, an 8.6 percent increase compared to the control, with an average fresh biomass yield of 4,675 kg per mu.

In recent years, Guiyang and Gui'an have focused on eight key industries, including grain and oil crops, vegetables, edible fungi, fruits, livestock, poultry, aquaculture, and medicinal herbs. Strengthening breeding innovation, it has achieved 34 nationally approved and 153 provincially approved crop varieties.
