Guiyang City and Gui'an New Area in Southwest China's Guizhou province are accelerating forest derived economic development by utilizing resources, industrial foundations, and strategic location advantages.
The focus is on large-scale planting and industrialized operations to enhance land utilization and economic output. Key industries include edible mushrooms and traditional Chinese medicinal herbs, transforming ecological resources into economic benefits.
In 2025, Guiyang and Gui'an plan to cultivate 160,000 mu (10,667 hectares) of under-forest crops, including 45,000 mu of medicinal herbs and 10,000 mu of edible mushrooms.
They will establish 28 demonstration bases, each exceeding 200 mu of under-forest plantation, and nurture 60 large-scale enterprises with over 100 mu of plantation.
Through investment attraction, Guiyang and Gui'an have introduced and cultivated 66 medicinal herb and edible mushroom enterprises, engaging more than 20 individual entrepreneurs. Nine State-owned forest farms are integrating their resources with leading enterprises to build 12 under-forest planting demonstration bases covering nearly 7,000 mu.
Financial incentives, including interest subsidies and policy-based agricultural insurance, are being implemented to support under-forest industries. Guiyang and Gui'an have secured nine forestry development reform subsidy projects totaling 6.95 million yuan ($955,612), further enhancing economic resilience.
