The Guiyang bureau of agriculture and rural affairs has started a gastrodia elata growing base project in the Dushan village in Xiuwen county, Guiyang, Southwest China's Guizhou province.

"The gastrodia elata we are planting now will mature in about a year, and the harvest will last for four months," said Feng Yongfa, chief technician of the base.

A Guizhou-based agriculture technology firm invested in this project, and the growing base is currently being operated with the "company + rural collective economy + rural household" model.

In addition, the base has hired a dozen local villagers to take care of the gastrodia elata. "It only takes me 10 minutes to walk from my home to the base, and I can earn about 100 yuan ($13.96) per day," said Cao Deqin, a local worker at the base.

Moving forward, the Guiyang bureau of agriculture and rural affairs will continue to help Dushan village, develop rural economy, and hold targeted training sessions for farmers to boost local tourism.
