Efforts to implement a fishing ban in the Yangtze River basin have been made by the Guiyang and Guian New Area governments in Southwest China's Guizhou province, and phased progress has been made during this process.
The action plan for the Yangtze River basin fishing ban has been released, and relevant work has been included in the long-term performance goals for government officials. So far, more than 150 inspections have been carried out, together with 12 site visits, and 98 related problems were found and brought to the attention of relevant parties.
In addition, Guiyang and Guian also plan to sign a coordinated cooperation framework contract on the fishing ban with five other places in the province, including Zunyi and Bijie. The first cross-regional law enforcement action took place in last June in Qingzhen. The participating locations have selected 2,122 river chiefs, and established 12 supervision platforms.
A special fund of 100,000 yuan ($14,500) was created to encourage residents to report relevant illegal fishing activities in a timely manner.
Guiyang and Guian have also formulated themed posters and pamphlets, and established signs and bulletin boards to circulate the new ban-related laws and regulations.
