The agricultural product processing rate of Guiyang and Guian New Area, Southwest China's Guizhou province, reached 62.19 percent, a year-on-year increase of 6.15 percentage points, ranking them first in the province, according to the Guiyang bureau of agriculture and rural affairs on March 15.

Last year, Guiyang and Guian had successfully set up one national modern agriculture industrial park, four industrial towns, five special industrial clusters, 14 "one village, one product" (meaning one village or town mainly that focuses on producing or manufacturing one type of product) demonstration villages and towns, and 21 provincial special food processing demonstration bases.

In addition, Guiyang and Guian have cultivated 206 key enterprises, and registered 1,076 agricultural product processing companies. Additionally, Guizhou Huangniu Industry Group Co was identified as a provincial leading agricultural enterprise.

The local policy support for agriculture in both areas has doubled, with three firms having received 380 million yuan ($55.18 million) in modern agriculture development funding, and 13 corporations having received 4.21 million yuan in loans with discounted interest.

This year, Guiyang and Guian will pay special attention to the vegetables, fruit, traditional Chinese medicine, tea and ecological fishery and husbandry sectors. They will also continue to develop the deep and refined processing methods for their agricultural products.

Meanwhile, the two places will also accelerate technology transfers and upgrading, as well as allocate more funding to assist in the construction of industrial clusters for vegetables and edible fungi.
