Ma Xiao, director of the Guiyang bureau of agriculture and rural affairs, presided over a symposium on May 31 in Guiyang – capital of Southwest China's Guizhou province – to offer guidance on the prevention and control of floods and draught.
Faced with a capricious climate since the start of the year, officials from the agricultural and rural system of Guiyang city were urged to prioritize natural disaster response work and to keep focusing on meteorological and water-related disasters.
They were also asked to minimize farmers' losses and safeguard the lives of residents and protect properties.
This is expected to be actioned by enhancing governance, post-disaster reconstruction, technological services, as well as by stabilizing agricultural product prices and strengthening law enforcement.
