Rural tourism gives Guiyang and Guian a boost

The tourism market in Guiyang and Guian New Area in Southwest China's Guizhou province saw a strong recovery during the May Day holiday with more than 7.8 million tourists, achieving comprehensive tourism revenue of more than 4.85 billion yuan ($70 million), local media reported.

Agro-tourism and rural tourism have become important forms of leisure tourism for citizens and tourists, contributing significantly to the recovery of the local tourism market.

Before the May Day holiday, the Guiyang bureau of agriculture and rural affairs released the "Guiyang Guian Rural Tourism Boutique Routes", recommending 14 beautiful villages and 32 tourism routes to the public to allow tourists to experience agricultural culture, the fresh flavor of rural cuisine and taste delicacies with local characteristics.

During the May Day holiday, 15 key rural tourism villages in Guiyang and Guian received 143,700 tourists, generating a cumulative income of more than 14.2 million yuan. With the popularity of rural tourism and the rise in local farmers' income, the achievements of rural vitalization have become even more prominent.

Officials said that for the next step, Guiyang and Guian will focus on the high-quality development of homestays and farmhouses, and put them into operation before the summer vacation season.
