Guiyang and Guian New Area in Southwest China's Guizhou province achieved results after working to develop rural governance since the beginning of this year.
Authorities have worked out effective measures to solve problems such as unregistered houses or one household having more than one house, and have formed a reasonable layout for the development of rural residential areas.
The government launched a rural house image improvement campaign and has renovated building facades for 10,000 rural households.
A total of 3,968 decrepit rural houses have been renovated, and Guiyang and Guian also encourage villagers to make use of their idle houses to earn money through land transfers and other channels.
Drinking water, sewage and black and odorous water bodies are three important issues in rural water governance. Guiyang and Guian now have 2,842 rural water supply programs operating, involving a population of 1.98 million. About 97.46 percent of rural residential areas accommodating more than 100 people are now able to enjoy centralized water supply services. So far, Guiyang and Guian have established 2,801 sets of rural sewage processing facilities, with about 230,000 metric tons of sewage purified daily. A total of 17 out of 18 black and odorous water body sites are currently being governed.
The two regions also established 86 waste management demonstration villages, and the domestic garbage collecting and transfer system covers 881 villages in 67 towns.
