Southwest China's Guizhou province was recently hit with a bout of snowy and rainy weather, with the low temperatures taking a toll on winter vegetable cultivation.

In this regard, the Guiyang bureau of agriculture and rural affairs invited experts at the provincial and municipal levels to form a supervisory group, and visited several towns in Luodian county.

At a vegetable growing base in Maojing town, the group checked the growing situation of more than 100 pepper, eggplant and tomato varieties, and suggested that farmers enhance temperature control in the greenhouses, repair damaged agricultural film, and pay more attention to irrigation and fertilization processes.

At Longping and Fengting towns, experts urged the acceleration of heat preservation facilities. Farmers were advised to focus on when to put on or take off agricultural film, which is directly related to the capricious climate. Meanwhile, relevant agricultural technology support departments were required to summarize pepper pruning techniques and technologies in order to promote regeneration.
