Meeting focuses on farmers, agriculture and rural areas

A special meeting for solving issues related to the farmers, agriculture and rural areas of Guiyang City and Gui'an New Area was held on Jan 14.

According to the meeting, the government plans to build 20 professional towns with distinctive characteristics, and continue to develop 164 "one-village-one-product" demonstration villages. It also aims to cultivate over 10,000 practical rural talents, and add more than three local agricultural brands that are each worth 5 million yuan ($696,500) or more.

In addition, efforts will be made to set up 1,200 waste classification and collection facilities in rural areas. The government will also carry out five animal manure treatment pilot projects, and improve toilets in 2,664 rural households.

Some 2,000 new grain growing households, more than 500 new vegetable growing households, and 200 new livestock farming households will be cultivated. In addition, Guiyang will add 200 more municipal demonstration family farmers, and 100 more provincial demonstration family farms.
