This year, the urban-rural coordinated development bureau of Gui'an New Area, Southwest China's Guizhou province, will focus on seven aspects to ensure that the area's total farming, forestry, husbandry and fishing output in the first quarter grows by at least 6.5 percent.

The seven aspects include the completion of agricultural goals and tasks, spring plowing work, progress on major agricultural projects, support for market entities, agricultural product supply guarantees and price stabilization, project funding, and investment promotion.

The bureau will strengthen dialogues with meteorological and emergency response departments, perform better in the forecast and analysis of disastrous weather, guide towns and sub-districts in natural disaster prevention and control, coordinate insurance companies to improve their compensation mechanism, and arrange training for statistical departments to improve the data quality.

The regular governance of abandoned farmlands will be implemented, and point-to-point agricultural supply sales sites will be established through cooperation with municipal supply and marketing cooperatives. The distribution, transportation and storing of seeds, fertilizers and pesticides will be given priority, and technical guidance will be further enhanced in regards to the care of vegetables and edible fungi.

The new area also seeks to stabilize its production capacity for livestock, poultry and eggs. It also plans to establish about 2,333.33 hectares of high-quality standard farmlands, develop five beautiful home projects, and expedite the construction of several white shrimp and bass breeding bases. By the end of the first quarter, the area hopes to produce 75 metric tons of seafood.

Key farming households, family farms, agricultural enterprises, and professional rural cooperatives will be encouraged to develop large-scale farming and breeding through land transfers and trusts. The price of major agricultural products will be monitored strictly to ensure the market has sufficient supply.

The bureau will also apply for more than 130 million yuan ($18.11 million) in funding for its agriculture sector, and it will leverage the modern agriculture industrialization fund to solve the financing issues faced by small and medium-sized enterprises.
