In recent years, Guiyang City and Gui'an New Area have utilized their big data strengths to transform traditional agriculture through digital technology.
By integrating digital solutions into various farming scenarios, they have advanced smart production, online management, and data-driven decision-making, fostering deep integration between the digital economy and rural vitalization.
The transition from traditional farming to smart farming is revolutionizing agricultural practices. Guiyang has implemented smart technologies, merging high-quality seeds, advanced methods, and machinery with digital and mechanical tools.
In 2024, 66 tractors, rice transplanters, and harvesters were equipped with Beidou smart terminals, connecting them to a cloud platform for real-time scheduling and performance monitoring. Pilot programs in mechanized rice farming achieved an average cost savings and efficiency gain of ¥510 per acre.
The city's "Digital Guiyang" strategy also supports e-commerce, live-streaming, and new media for marketing agricultural products. Since 2021, Xiuwen county has trained over 10,000 individuals in e-commerce, boosting kiwi fruit sales to 30 million yuan ($4.11 million) in 2024.
Guiyang's agricultural logistics hub in Xiuwen's Zhazuo town processes 4,000 metric tons of produce daily, with a trading volume exceeding 30 million yuan.
Also, through intelligent pest monitoring and precision planting, the city has limited crop losses to less than 5 percent, securing food production and driving the modernization of mountain agriculture.
