Guiyang and Gui'an advance modern agriculture for sustainable growth

In 2024, Guiyang City and Gui'an New Area in Southwest China's Guizhou province made remarkable strides in modern agriculture, focusing on improving quality and efficiency.

Key initiatives included implementing major industrial projects, which supported the creation of 160,000 mu (10,666 hectares) of large-scale, eco-friendly vegetable farms.

Demonstration bases for rice and vegetable crop rotation covered 5,000 mu, and bases dedicated to summer and autumn vegetable production covered 8,000 mu. Guiyang and Gui'an also established a vegetable supply base in Luodian county, spanning 5,000 mu.

Guiyang ranked 4th nationally in the third "vegetable basket" initiative assessment round. The city advanced its agricultural infrastructure by constructing county-level commercial systems across 22 counties and completing three agricultural supply chain projects.

Over 2,500 signed contracts with four major operators resulted in the sale of 5,083 metric tons of fertilizers.

Guiyang and Gui'an nurtured seven agricultural product processing enterprises above a designated size and forecasted output of 21 billion yuan ($2.86 billion) in eco-friendly and specialty food products.

They also focused on enhancing rural economic activities. Fifty percent of towns linked their main industries to provincial agricultural leaders, and 10 top-quality agricultural products are now listed on the national registry.
