As Spring Festival approaches, vegetable markets in Guiyang City and Gui'an New Area are experiencing a surge in demand. To ensure sufficient supply, local farming bases are ramping up the harvesting of fresh produce.
On Jan 20, fields in Chafan village, Zhuchang town, Guanshanhu district, were lush with vegetables like bok choy, mustard greens, and garland chrysanthemum, which were being harvested by farmers in preparation for the holiday.

Chen Yan, a leading vegetable grower in the village, explained that all of her greenhouses are at full capacity with various crops. To maintain freshness, vegetables are harvested according to demand and promptly delivered to markets or customers.
Chen's 120-mu (8-hectare) farm, featuring over 20 greenhouses, focuses on fast-growing vegetables such as bok choy and mustard greens. Thanks to irrigation systems installed with support from the Guiyang bureau of agriculture and rural affairs, her crops thrive even during dry spells.

In recent years, Guiyang has prioritized its "vegetable basket" initiative as a key livelihood project. By the end of 2024, the city had established 770,000 mu of vegetable farms locally. Large-scale and eco-friendly farms account for 160,000 mu, supported by advanced rotation and demonstration projects.
"With enhanced production, distribution, and regulatory systems, we aim to secure stable vegetable supplies, making this initiative a cornerstone of public well-being," said an official from the Guiyang bureau of agriculture and rural affairs.
