Workers at major food supply bases in Guiyang City and Gui'an New Area in Southwest China's Guizhou province remained busy during the Spring Festival holiday. Their dedication and hard work ensured residents a stable food supply.
On Feb 5, 750 kilograms of fresh sturgeon, bound for the Guiyang Yuqiao Seafood Market, were loaded onto trucks at Guizhou Shuizhiyuan Agricultural Technology Development Co, located in Xiaobao village, Xishan town, Xifeng county.
While most people returned to work on the eighth day of Chinese New Year, Shuizhiyuan resumed sales as early as the fourth day. "We delivered fresh fish on the first day of Chinese New Year, took two days off, and since the fourth day, we've sold over 3,500 kg of sturgeon," said site manager Zhai Bing.
On Jan 20, the Guiyang bureau of agriculture and rural affairs launched a daily monitoring system to ensure supply. Authorities coordinated with meteorological departments to predict weather impacts and implemented cold-resistant measures for livestock and crops.
The city currently cultivates 420,000 mu (28,000 hectares) of vegetables, with 80,000 metric tons expected to reach the market over the course of 10 days. Meanwhile, 88,900 pigs and 13.88 million poultry are available to stabilize the meat supply.
Thanks to early preparations, supermarkets, wholesale markets, and fresh food stores in Guiyang and Gui'an operated normally throughout the holiday, ensuring sufficient food supplies for residents.
