As spring arrives, waves of cherry and cole flowers bloom along Guiyang's Hongfeng Lake, where a rural tourism corridor is taking shape.

"Now we're just as good as the other side of the lake!" says Luo Zhongzhen, owner of the village's Lanyue Cafe.

Thanks to national rural vitalization efforts and Guizhou's "Beautiful Countryside" initiative, the area has undergone major upgrades, from sewage systems to scenic facades. Of 76 households, 32 have been renovated into boutique homestays.
Embracing their Bouyei ethnic roots, villagers now run cultural guesthouses featuring handicraft workshops. Owner Li Yangmei says one social media post was enough to attract week-long bookings.
Now, spots like "Tianyeji – Landiao Xiaoyuan" offer lakeside views and flower fields, attracting weekday tourists.
"This is the future – living, healing, and starting up in the countryside," says Liu Yu, head of Hongfenghu town.
Last year alone, rural homestays in Guiyang hosted 180,000 visits, with 74 percent from outside the province – a sign that rural life is in full bloom.
