Guiyang City and Gui'an New Area are making major strides in modern mountain agriculture, utilizing ecological strengths and geographic advantages to drive rural vitalization. The region is pursuing breakthroughs in high-efficiency farming by focusing on the vitalization, mechanization, and agricultural processing of the seed industry.
At the seedling breeding center in Nanmudu town of Kaiyang county, over 270 workers are preparing vegetable seedlings for more than 70 growers across Guizhou. Over 3 million seedlings have already been delivered to Luodian county, supporting over 3,000 mu (200 hectares) of farmland. The center aims to produce 50 million seedlings in 2025.
Guiyang and Gui'an also prioritize agricultural innovation. In 2024, the region welcomed top-tier seed industry institutions, secured national patents, and approved multiple high-performing crop varieties, strengthening its role in modern agriculture.
Mechanization is key. This spring, the Chunhai Agricultural Machinery Cooperative in Xiuwen county tilled over 5,000 mu and expects to serve 40,000 mu by year-end. With 137 machines, the cooperative enhances efficiency and increases farmers' incomes.
The region now operates 311,200 machines, with a 61.88 percent mechanization rate – up 12.23 percent since 2021.
Guiyang and Gui'an also promote agricultural processing, supporting smart factories like "Sange Mala", which produces 3,000 metric tons of chili products annually with minimal labor.
Looking ahead, the region aims to deepen integration across planting, breeding, processing, and agritourism to fully realize modern mountain agriculture.
