Guizhou Zhunong High-Tech Seed Co from Guiyang, capital of Southwest China's Guizhou province, was recently granted a crop seed production and operation license (class A).
Established in 2007, the company specializes in the R&D, breeding, and seed production of rice, corn, and vegetable varieties. Annually, it cultivates rice seeds across over 30,000 mu (2,000 hectares), producing more than 5 million kilograms of rice seeds.
It promotes nearly 30 high-quality rice and corn varieties, with a cultivation area reaching 5 million mu. The company operates 500+ mu (33 hectares) of rice and corn research bases in Guizhou, Anhui, and Hainan, and its independently cloned rice dwarf gene (sdlr5) has been granted a national invention patent.
In recent years, Guiyang City and Gui'an New Area have prioritized seed industry revitalization as a key reform initiative. They have introduced 18 measures and a three-year implementation plan to support high-quality seed industry development.
By encouraging partnerships among enterprises, universities, and research institutes, they aim to concentrate innovation resources, such as breeding talent, technology, and resources, within enterprises, accelerating the cultivation of core strengths in seed industry revitalization.
These efforts have increased the number of seed enterprises to 57, with 34 nationally approved and 153 provincially approved crop varieties. The region now leads the province in the number of enterprise-developed major crop varieties.
