Big data drives Guiyang and Gui'an modern farming transformation

Guiyang City and Gui'an New Area in Southwest China's Guizhou province have advanced the digital transformation of planting, breeding, processing, circulation, and agro-tourism services through the deep integration of big data and agriculture.

The application of smart agriculture has improved production efficiency, optimized resource allocation, expanded market channels, and accelerated the realization of a modern agricultural landscape characterized by precision, efficiency, and industrialization.

By enhancing the full-chain digitalization of the Nanmudu and Nanjiang seedling breeding centers, Guiyang and Gui'an have achieved an annual output of over 100 million seedlings. The pilot application of BeiDou technology in agricultural machinery has also transformed 277 smart terminals.

Ten pest, seedling, disaster, and moisture monitoring stations have been established in major rice, fruit, and tea producing areas to enable intelligent forecasting. The full-process informatization management of high-standard vegetable bases has increased production efficiency by 40 percent, earning recognition as a national case for smart agriculture construction.

This digital transformation has yielded remarkable benefits, with facilities' aquaculture densities having increased 10 to 12 times compared to traditional methods, effectively mitigating risks from extreme weather, hypoxia, and diseases.

The value-added effects of deep processing have also propelled high-quality agricultural development, as the revenue of Guiyang's agricultural product processing enterprises above a designated size has reached 37.36 billion yuan ($5.24 billion) in the first half of this year.

By deploying digital solutions, Guiyang and Gui'an have achieved a doubling of agricultural production efficiency, a reconstruction of industrial value chains, and the activation of diversified rural values.
