During the 14th Five-Year Plan period (2021-25), Guiyang ensured food security and furthered poverty alleviation, with grain production capacity steadily increasing, vegetable supply becoming abundant and reliable, poverty alleviation results consolidated, rural vitalization promoted, rural landscapes renewed, and farmers' incomes experiencing leapfrog growth.
In 2024, the added value of Guiyang's primary industry reached 21.52 billion yuan ($3.08 billion), with average annual growth of 5 percent since 2020. Guiyang's grain-planting area has expanded to over 1.35 million mu (90,000 hectares).
The area for oilseed crops has increased by 34.44 percent compared to 2020, and the per-mu yield of corn demonstration fields in Xifeng county has broken through 1,000 kilograms for the first time, with the highest per-mu yield of Longbaoba ultra-high-yield demonstration field reaching 939.4 kg, setting a new provincial record for high-yield self-bred varieties of high-quality rice.
Guiyang has built 409,000 mu of high-standard farmland, with the comprehensive mechanization rate for the cultivation, sowing, and harvesting of major crops exceeding 63 percent, and the coverage rate of superior varieties exceeding 96.5 percent.
Guiyang has constructed vegetable supply bases, ecological livestock breeding farms, vegetable logistics parks, modern slaughterhouses, and dairy product processing plants, with the output of vegetables and mushrooms, fruits, pigs, and aquatic products having increased by 21.40 percent, 57.09 percent, 16.98 percent, and 27.30 percent, respectively, compared to 2020.
In 2024, the per capita disposable income of rural residents reached 25,268 yuan, up 7.9 percent from 2020. This growth rate has outpaced that of urban residents for five consecutive years, and the income ratio between urban and rural residents has narrowed from 2.16:1 to 2:1.
